What to Visit
Beaches
The beaches of Carloforte are almost all on the left of the town when arriving from the ferry, and therefore towards the south/southwest.
They are all quite close but to get there you need a car or at least a bicycle; alternatively there is a public transport service by bus.
The various beaches are:
– “Dietro i Forni”, easily reachable on foot, less than 1 km from the town, but it is the ugliest;
– “Il Giunco”, very long, suitable for children because the water only becomes deep after a hundred metres;
-“Girin” and, following, “Punta nera”, “Guidi”, “La Bobba”, “Luccaise”, Geniò (only low rocks) which are all very beautiful small coves with sand and, on the sides, rocks, distant between them 1 or 2 kilometers. Punta nera, Guidi, La Bobba, La Caletta have refreshment points. All the beaches are indicated on the road by some reddish boulders with the name engraved on them.
– The last beach about 9 kilometers from the town is “La Caletta” which is the largest beach, very beautiful and also equipped for eating at both lunch and dinner (to see a beautiful sunset). Of course, the sunset can also be enjoyed for free from the beach.
On all these beaches you can park in special dirt parking lots, paying a small fee. At Caletta, however, you pay more.
Excursions/activities
You can go on excursions within the island by driving or even taking beautiful walks.
There are many roads, in addition to the asphalted ones, which allow you to reach almost all corners of the island as long as you have a car that is not too low.
Driving along the asphalt road to the lighthouse you arrive at a viewpoint with a breathtaking view and, here too, a romantic sunset.
Or, still on an asphalt road, you can go to the Punta, to the north-west of the island; on a dirt road you can go to the cliffs of Punta delle Oche or Guardia Mori or many other very suggestive areas. In the latter places there are no beaches but they are places that are worth seeing. However, they are all marked with the usual pink boulders.
